fashion on film

i am not a celebrity, kate mcauley, fashion on film

It’s wildly obvious – by way of my sketchy posting record of late – that I’ve been cheating on i am not a celebrity with other projects. I’ve already introduced you to one or two, but here’s another I think you might like – namely fashion on film.

Back in July, I began cataloguing all the style related films I came across. I’d noticed that everyone seemed to be having a crack at it – from bloggers with flipcams to high-end brands releasing top quality videos – and I thought it might be fun to store them all in one place. And, with the help of a stunningly easy Tumblr backend, so far I have a few thousand on record.

So, apart from being a very useful resource, I thought I’d institute a top five videos of the week post here each Friday. So, without further adieu, here are my favourites…

1. textural references

In this film, The New York Time‘s Cathy Horyn interviews Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton in their Paris atelier by Nowness. This gave me goosebumps – from the opening scenes of exquisite fabric, beading and ruffles to Sarah Burton’s obvious passion. I feel the sting of McQueen’s premature departure and what could have been. Simply stunning.

2. funny girl

From brevity to levity – I can’t get enough of Man Repeller Leandra Medine. On her blog she highlights fashion trends that women love, but men hate. Here she allows BlueFly into her closet. Check out her trademarked arm party. Too hilarious.

 3. bling, bling. hello? prada? is that you?

I’m a little girl. I like things bright and shiny. That’s just one of the reasons I love this vid of Prada’s 2012 resort campaign. I’d wear it all – even if I was just on a trip to the shops.

4. rumbled

Ok, so twitter superstar DKNY PR girl wasn’t exactly ‘outed’ this week. Aliza Licht – the SVP of Global Communications at Donna Karan – was intentionally revealed on this behind-the-scenes at New York Fashion Week film.

5. beautiful

What do you get when you throw supermodel Erin O’Connor together with haute couture by Alexander McQueen, Stephane Rolland, Gaultier Paris, Chanel, and Georges Chakra? A film like this via FashionTV.

and – because it’s the first time – here are a few more from
the past few weeks that are worthy of a mention…

6. two stylish minds are better than one

I’m loving the Peroni Collaborazioni with bloggers Emily of Fashion Foie Gras, Navaz of Disney Roller Girl and Susie of Style Bubble. The women have paired up with an accessory or clothing designer to make something quintessentially Italian. Here’s episode two of Emily with jewellery designer Jessica de Lotz followed by Navaz with menswear superstar Shaun Samson. Visit the Peroni site for more.

7. perfect

I can’t wait to see this Tom Ford documentary. Apparently it’s already aired in the US. When can I see it? When? When? When?

So, what do you think? Which is your favourite? Or am I missing something you loved? Let me know by leaving a comment below.

Yep, he annoys me too. It’s the super ego that intrigues. I can’t seem to look away. So I stare, with a scowl.

And, you’re very welcome. Can’t wait to see the shirt. I love the experimentation. I want to try it at home.
