I had one of those slam-hand-against-forehead-why-didn’t-I-think-of-that moments when I came across Foster Huntington and his new blog The Burning House. The premise is so simple it hurts. If your house was burning, what would you take with you?
Fellow blogger Rohan Anderson of Whole Larder Love had been asked to contribute and I was intrigued. So, naturally I got in touch with Foster and asked him a couple of questions:
who are you: my name is Foster Huntington and I live in New York City
where you’re from: I am from Portland Oregon and lived in Maine for four years during college.
inspiration behind the site: I’m fascinated by the choices people make in the things they own. It tells a lot about where they came from and what they are interested in. The Burning House condenses the things people own. What you bring is a conflict between the valuable, sentimental and practical.
how do you choose the people who are profiled: I pick people from different backgrounds. I want people from all walks of life and interests on the site.
anything else you’d like to add: Submit a post!

A photo of what The Burning House founder Foster Huntington would grab if the flames were licking at his heels.
And then he asked me to contribute. Colour me flattered. My photo is posted today. And I’m pleased as punch. Click here to see a full list of what I’ve included.
There’s no doubt that this idea will be turned into a book. I’d love to know what you think. What would you take? Please leave me a message below.

I know. It’s so intriguing. I’m addicted. xxx
That is a brilliant idea. I’m with you on the cat front – my Cornish Rex’s Cheryl and Rex would be first into my bag.
Yes, Goose is my priority. Silly little thing that she is.
Very interesting…and now of course I’m sitting here and mentally cataloging my own possessions!

It’s definitely a fascinating exercise. I just visited your website. Your photos are lovely. You should submit a post.
I’ve just discovered your blog, via the burning house! Loved your round up of belongings and Goose is just sooo cute! I’m walking around my flat in my head trying to figure out what I’d take with me!
Hi Sally, thanks so much for leaving a comment. Especially about Goose. Hunter asked me how I got her to stay put in the box like that. It was easy really – she’s hardly ever out of it. I look forward to seeing yours too. Take care, Kate.
